Air Water America Helps Town of Queen Creek Reduce Aquatics Chemical Costs by Over $1,000 per Month with CO₂ Injection System

QUEEN CREEK, Ariz.Air Water America has successfully partnered with the Town of Queen Creek Aquatics and Recreation Department to improve water chemistry control, reduce chemical usage, and enhance operator safety through the installation of a CO₂ injection system. Delivered through Air Water America’s Arizona-based subsidiary, Phoenix Welding Supply, the system is generating $1,033 in net monthly savings while significantly lowering reliance on traditional chemicals.

Municipal aquatics facilities often face rising chemical costs and safety concerns tied to handling corrosive materials. Prior to the installation, the Town of Queen Creek relied heavily on muriatic acid and sodium bicarbonate to maintain proper pH levels, particularly during peak usage periods. This approach resulted in fluctuating water chemistry, increased labor, and higher operating costs.

The newly installed CO₂ injection system provides smoother, more consistent pH control by forming carbonic acid when dissolved in water, while naturally increasing alkalinity through bicarbonate ions. This reduces the need for corrective chemical dosing and minimizes staff exposure to hazardous materials.

Since commissioning the system in June, Queen Creek has reported measurable improvements, including a 77 percent reduction in sodium bicarbonate usage and a 44 percent reduction in acid usage. These results were achieved during peak season, with additional savings expected throughout the year.

“ We are very happy with the cost savings we are seeing after installing the CO₂ system,” said Dwayne Lang, Facility Services Supervisor for Aquatics and Recreation for the Town of Queen Creek. “The reduction in chemical usage has been significant, and the system has helped us maintain more stable water conditions. We are happy to serve as a reference and even provide a tour of our chemical feed system.”

Phoenix Welding Supply supported the project with system installation, reliable CO₂ supply, and ongoing technical support to ensure optimal performance.

“This project is a great example of how Air Water America and our operating companies help municipalities solve real operational challenges,” said a representative from Air Water America. “By reducing chemical usage, lowering costs, and improving safety, CO₂ injection offers a practical and proven solution for aquatics facilities.”
